Stella Adler’s advice for her student actors is also helpful for the preacher. Abstract concepts like love, hate or service are not lies, but they do not move us. They do not have flesh and blood; they are not real. You must pass them through your imagination to make them true, to give them flesh and blood, to make them real. “Show” stories do that.

Why Stories Work
